Sonic the hedgehog 4 (previously called "Project Needlemouse") has been released by Sega a few days ago. It`s available to be downloaded on all 3 major gaming consoles (don`t try to go to GameStop or any store to buy the game as it is not available to purchase, you have to download it).
I had the opportunity to play it since my boyfriend got it for me. I acquired it for my PS3 and played it a good bit and had to write a review on it. My overall opinion on it: Whether you are a fan of old school Sonic or new school, you should get this game!
Sega has done a great job in trying to create a Sonic game that would appeal to both generations of fans. I`ve been a fan of Sonic since 1993 and to finally get a Sonic 4 after it was first rumoured back in the mid 90`s.
It runs in the sidescroller fashion as the old Sonic games did but the graphics have been way updated since the old Genesis games. A lot of the original Genesis badniks are back for an encore and many of the levels will make you think of the levels from Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Sonic & Knuckles.
You can acquire the chaos emeralds to run in the zones as SuperSonic like you could back in the old days. The special zones to get the chaos emeralds are a lot like the one in Sonic 1 (which is the one special zone I don`t like and this is my only real complaint about the game). On the upside, you can control the rotation of the screen. However, there is a time limit (boo!). But at least SuperSonic is acquirable for regular zone play, which is what fans have been wanting for a long time.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 is actually the first Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 2 that I could move with confidence in the zones during my first run through them. That was great to have that kind of feel again.
With it being called Episode 1, there may be possibly more installments in the future?
Don`t hesitate to get this game if you currently are or once were a Sonic fan!
As for Sonic Colours, in the US, it`s due out in November 16 (ish). Keep an eye out. Apparently there is a new voice actor for Sonic in this game. Wonder who it is and what they sound like?
